Ice Age Horse Tooth fossil from my personal collection. Trying to get better at the process of creating a decent recreation of actual fossils in 3D.
Stuck a horse tooth from my collection on some poster putty to keep it upright for the photo process. The scan model was created from over 100 photos.
The initial model came out good, but the bottom had bad warps and obviously the texture could not be created.
Using Substance Designer I projected the texture from the scan to the new UV's of the lower poly model. This was taken into Photoshop and using elements from the rest of the scanned texture I repaired the damaged sections.
Using the browser based Normal Map Online generator, the normal worked well enough and the specular I took into photoshop and with a levels modifier I created a good starting place for a roughness map. A few additional layers in Painter finished the look.
