Un'goro Crater Tar Pits

I wanted to recreate Un'goro Crater from World of Warcraft as it was always one of my favorite zones. I decided to focus on the tar pit area as that seemed the most interesting. Brought in some elements from other areas of the zones like the oddly stacked rocks and glowing crystals. Some props I already posted some breakdowns on, the rest should be laid out under various images. Final render in Unreal.

I wanted a challenge with Gaea, so I wanted to make the entire zone and its surrounding areas in one mesh. Each zone was setup and colored separately and combined with masks.

While I wanted a more realistic tree, I still wanted to keep the "stylized" direction it had in game with only one or two large branches on the trunk before the top. There are 3 variations in the final render. Ivy vines added in Unreal.

I already posted these assets, but some notes are the tar material was used in the landscape as well to give it a tapered edge. The emission for the crystals I redid with the albedo in Unreal. Some were cut to save the geometry when under the floor.

I used a few assets from megascans as well. Nordic Forest Stones for the piles, burnt trees and dead grass, and some materials to make the ground blend from the tar nicely.
